Cinnamon gnocchi – Gnocchi alla cannella

This is a classic way to serve gnocchi in Verona. My grandmother always ate gnocchi like this. Traditionally these gnocchi were served with butter, cinnamon and sugar, this is a heritage from the Austrian Empire. I’ll leave that up to you and your sweet tooth, personally I skip the sugar.

Ingredients:

Basic potato gnocchi recipe
butter
cinnamon

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Gnocchi as indicated.
2. Melt the butter, about 1 Tbsp per serving, in a pan being careful not to brown it.
3. Put the gnocchi in the butter, mix a bit and then remove them with a slotted spoon allowing the excess butter to drip off.
4. Add cinnamon to taste and serve hot.

    Hi Patty,
We had gnochi at an Italian restaurant recently and fell in love with it. Upon searching for a recipe, I came across your site. We are having gnochi tonight.

How do you pronounce gnochi? Is the “g” silent? I look forward to trying more of your recipes..
Thanks for sharing with us. Shirley Walker

Most people here in Denmark have a real hard time pronouncing gnocchi correctly. But here goes: ”GN’ is pronounced “NJ’ as in Bologna and ‘CCH’ is pernounced ‘CK’ as in Nicky. Best Ulrik
